“Setting and Scoring Financial Goals” by Pete Huryk and Chris Schaefer

“Sometimes you need to take risks in order to end up with the winning goal.”

Setting & Scoring Financial Goals

“A budget is not there to tell you not to spend money on those things that are important to you but to help you make decisions about where to prioritize spending your money… It is all about balance, and a budget is a great way to help you find that balance.”

  • "Financial Goals is an excellent resource for young people looking to improve their financial literacy skills while also enjoying the excitement and energy of the sport of soccer. The book is well-written, informative, and entertaining, making it a must-read for anyone looking to score big in both their personal finances and on the soccer field."

  • “This is a light-hearted, often-humorous, and easy-to-read financial advice book that will keep you smiling and engaged as you eagerly turn the pages.”

  • "What sets Financial Goals apart from other personal finance books is the creative way in which the authors use soccer analogies to teach financial concepts. The book is full of engaging case studies and challenges that encourage readers to think critically and apply what they've learned to their own lives and finances."

  • "Financial Goals is filled with relatable anecdotes, real-life examples, and practical advice that can help young readers develop good financial habits. The authors emphasize the importance of setting clear financial goals and creating a plan to achieve them, much like a soccer player must set goals for their team in order to win."

About the Authors:

Their friendship was born out of a love for soccer in 1994 on the campus of Salisbury.  Chris Schaefer and Pete Huryk have taken different paths professionally but their love for the "beautiful game" has reunited them to help people navigate the world of finance.  Chris's financial mind mixed with Pete's experiences as a coach and teacher have produced this book.

Fill Your Boots was Pete Huryk’s first book. Intended for high school-age soccer players, it is filled with life lessons that overlap with the game of soccer. The book can be read as a whole or read section by section depending on the needs of the individual.

In his sophomore work, Soccer Life Balance, Pete took a more methodical approach to individual achievement. Using facets of the game as metaphors for different aspects of life and their systematic improvement, Soccer Life Balance is a resource manual for taking steps toward being a better version of one’s self.
